RESTORE ORIGINAL OR RESTO
I am a new member who has been reading and getting advice from here for a long time.I am just starting to restore my 1966 c code convertible that I have owned since 1978 (2 owner car). It is all original (68k miles, dealer added ac, auto,no rust, no damage,Magnum 500 14x7 wheels, 289 w/ autolite 2100 carb,8" 2.80 rear end, manual steering and brakes), with all applicable engine tags still on it. I have removed the original suspension, and am now cleaning and painting the engine bay and underneath, prior to installing new suspension, gas tank, and brakes. I have removed the interior, primed the pans, and rebuilt the heater.
My problem is whether to keep the restoration all original, or to build the engine, new rear end, transmission, ect. I will probably eventually sell it, but not for a while, unless I get an unrestible offer.
Give me your ideas please.Thanks

If you do feel the need to restomod it make sure you use kits and parts that allow you to revert your car to its original state. I also have an all original C code with barely over 100K miles, I plan on doing an 5.0 EFI and t5 conversion to it and put the original drivetrain to the side to keep wear and tear off of it. Then put in a kit that changes it to power rack and pinion steering, coil over suspension, and power disc brakes requiring no welding and its completely reversible. I'm going to bad and tag my original part so if I decide to sell it I can put them back on or sell them with the car, I don't like the idea or irreversibly changing an original low mileage car like that. But with kits that don't require cutting or welding you can have modern conveniences but still go back to the original state.
If you are going to sell it I would restore back to original.
If you are going to keep and drive it I would upgrade the car to make it safer and give it better driveability and performance.

+1 to pushrod. If your going to sell it, keep it original. An all original is getting harder to find, but the performance sucks. To keep it original is really just for show right? There are so many upgrades that can be done to those 40+ year old cars that make them drive and handle so much better. Not to mention much safer which makes them more fun to drive too.
Sounds like a great canidate for a factory type restoration, but at the same time a complete unrusted car is a easy restomod project as well,as long asyou don't do anything that can't be reversed. In short,it's your car so do whatever makes you proud to own and drive it.
