Default steering column problem

I am having a problem with my steering column height, I know sounds it sounds like a stupid problem to have. When I put the clamps on the column and attach it under the dash, the column is not flush with the dash groove. This extra space is causing the column angle to be low, thereby making the steering wheel placement about 2 inches above the seat. Does anyone have any suggestions, hints, or even smarta$$ comments are welcome. 1968 mustang with 347, 5 speed, and unisteer R&P (shaft to rack not connected)
By the way, just got the car back from my body guy after several months, and the San Diego wildfires are within a few miles of my house. Talk about bad timing.

Default RE: steering column problem

A photo would be of help. Are all the mounts in the correct location and the rag joint connected? Is this an original column? Their should be 2 brackets that sandwich the tube in place. Their is a hole in the tube that a finger on one of these brackets that fits into. That keeps it from sliding in and out of the firewall. The other two brackets hold the lower most part of the tube andmount to the fire wall. Do a recheck and see if everything is in place.
