Default Suspension Question

Here a little about my situation...

I have a 67 mustang with what i believe is the original coil and leafs. i put new tires and rims on. The tires are 205/55zr16 fronts, and 255/50r16 rears. I need to do something with the suspension, because the tires hit the fenders sometimes. Like when i pull out of a driveway and its a big curb the fronts hit the fenders sometimes, or if i have weight in the back (for example, people in the back seat) and i hit a bump the rears will hit sometimes. It raises heck on the tires and fenders. I need some advice on what to do.

I really like the way my car sits right now, so i would like to avoid raising it up. I just need a stiffer ride. I did replace the shocks not too long ago. If i replace the coils and leafs, i have seen 1" lowering coils and 1" lowering kits for leafs. What kind of results would i get from those? Or any other suggestions?

Lowering your car will allow more rubbing. You do not want to raise it up, that's for sure.
How old are your springs? They could be sagging...
Did you choose the correct offset for your new wheels? It does'nt sound like it...
A link to successful tire and wheels combos has been posted here a few times, try a search to compare with your setup.

I probably didn't choose the right offset, but i don't want to change that. Assuming that they are the original coils, and that they are sagging,

what results would i probably get with the 1" lowering coils.

I just need to make it a stiffer ride. With possibly not changing the stance.

Maybe some air shocks or helper spring over the shocks or lowering blocks( used to raise it up). You could buy some new stiffer springs or put helper overload springs on it. Maybe add a leaf or coil spacers. Could your front tires be hitting because your tires are to wide and hit when you turn? Its that way on my Xterra, almost. It will rub my mud flap when I turn hard if the mud flap is a little loose.

drop springs will lower the car 1" from original stock height. If your coils are sagging in front, a set of #620 rated springs might not drop it at all. You can also install a 1" spacer above the spring into the shock tower to keep the car from dropping.

You might try to get stock springs and find some that have a stiffer rating. maybe from a big block Stang.

Rear springs can be re-arched, or replaced.

I replaced my 40 year old rear leaf springs last summer, and it made all the difference in how she sits and handles. They are a bitch sometimes to change though. The front bolts usually rust to the spring eye and you have to cut them out. I used a sawzall, but I have read where others use a cutting torch.
