Default Restoration question

We are getting ready to buy a 64 1/2 mustang coupewith a 289 v8 but, it needs a lot a restoration. My question is: where are some good resources for parts to restore this beast. Any help will be apreciated, and once we close the deal on this car I'll be joining you guys in this forum.

There are tons of places to buy parts for your car, and luckily the 64-66 is rather inexpensive. There are tons of distributors of all the parts you can think of but most of the parts are by the same manufacturer. All the carpets you see for sale are done by the same company, most of the OEM body panels are the same. All the body panels are going to take a little effort to fit them to your car mostly because quality control wasn't Ford's biggest concern, it was building as many as it could. If you are more concerned about ease of fitment than price look for original Ford tooling parts but expect to pay around twice as much as reproduction parts. I mainly deal with National Parts Depot because they are just a few miles down the road from me and have great customer service and have helped me with most anything, and I think they are the cheapest. Just google classic mustang parts and most of the best suppliers will be on that list. But for the most part, most of the parts are from the same source.

Oh yeah, some places actually sell original Ford parts that were left over in warehouses, but unless you are trying to build a show car don't bother.

I know that www.cjponyparts.com sells body parts/kits. I haven't used them yet though.

I just did a ground up on my '65. I got all of my parts from these vendors:

National Parts Depot: www.npdlink.com
Mustangs Unlimited www.mustangsunlimited.com
CJ Pony Parts www.cjponyparts.com
Tony Branda www.cobranda.com

The ones I thought were really expensive: California Mustang and Year One.

I have bought nearly everything possible and fabbed some parts that were not available. CJponyparts seem the least expensive and good products. Like said before, most parts come from the same source. You do have a choice for original ford tooling parts and these will cost more. Usually body panels are good from the original tooling but all other sheet metal, amy repro will work and is good quality. That will save money. Once you get into custom suspension, steering(R&P), etc. these will cost a buttload no matter what you go with, unless your doing all original. Whatever you expect to spend, you will be WAY under. At least double what you think to spend. Good luck.

I get most of my parts from CJ Pony Parts,Mustangs Unlimited and National Parts Depot, like many of the other members here. I haven't had too many problems wtih these companies, IMO the customer service of all three of them is pretty great.

I recommend going to a place and picking it up rather than ordering on line. Yes, it's convenient, but when there's a problem, you're SOL.

I realize Houston is 3+ hours, but I'd get a great big shopping list and make an early Saturday Morning run to John's Mustang. Competative prices, good stock (call ahead), and the best part is you can make sure it's what you want before you load it up.

I've driven down there (3+ hours for me too) and back just for one part so I wouldn't have to wait.....
