I just bought a 71 Mach (351 4v - C6)and noticed it has a column with a shifterarmbut has floor shift. I thought all mustangs were floor shift is this true?

if its a mach 1 it should be just floor shift, i thinking someone put a different column in at some time...

 

i dont think that any 71-73 mustang came with column shift. i have never seen one. i would say that someone put a different column in it.

 

im pretty sure no mustang has ever had a column shifter

 

I have never seen a mustang with column shifter its got a steering column out of a different ford.

 

The manual transmission cars have a movable collar on the steering column that ineracts with the transmission. It's an interlock that makes you put the transmission in reverse in order to get the key out. This is likely what the OP is asking about.
