Default three on the tree shifter?

Howdy all,

When I was a kid back in the late 1960s, one of our neighbors had a stock Mustang that I would swear had a three-on-the-tree shifter. Whenever I mention that to people, though, nobody seems to remember stock Mustangs with three-on-the-tree shifters, and I haven't been able to find evidence of this in any of the admittedly small bit of research I've done online. Could one of the knowledgeable folks out there confirm that such a shifting system did or did not exist on the early Mustangs? Are there any links to this online that anyone knows about? I would greatly appreciate an answer to this question that has been bugging me for years!

Many thanks in advance,

Dan

No column shift mustangs. Either floor manual or automatic. Even in the bench seat models.

Never heard of it as a stock option. Go here www.mustangspecs.com it will give you the factory options of all the classic mustangs. But it could of been optioned from the dealer for all we know like that. Dealers had some crazy options back then, you could have a TV installed even. Or like everybody else said someone else did it.

Perhaps it was a Camaro? My buddy's '67 Camaro 'vert with an I-6 had a 'three on the tree'.
