Default car surging/jumping

whenever i accelerate hard my car has this weird surging/jumping almost like my clutch isnt all the way out, except my car is an automatic. only a problem when i slam on the pedal not during slow acceleration. just want to figure out whats wrong with it. first thought was accelerater pump? but the carb is less than 1000miles old

If she sputters at high speed then I would place my $$$ in the fuel system. Sounds like what mine was doing a couple weeks ago until I rebuilt the carb and found crap in it. No problems since. Change out the fuel filter and check the output pressure of the fuel pump.

i just put a new carb on because my old carb was crap. new fuel filter. old fuel pump. it runs perfect once im moving, at high speeds no problem what so ever. only when i floor it, once i lay off and accelerate slow im fine.

ill check the transmission fluid, when i have the car in park and rev the engine hard theres no sputtering or anything...

its not a fuel issue, its not sputtering like it needs fuel, its like my engine is trying to jump out of the bay

If it is tranny and not an engine issue - i would suspect the stall converter getting ready to shell...

Troubleshoot the engine first (cheaper). If the engine is fine - then take to a good tranny place.

knuckless,
"99.9 % of fuel problems are electrical"
check your ignition system if you don't find a fuel filter problem or low fuel output. Good luck

Knuckless,
If it sputters/jumps/ bucks/ etc...under hard acceleration, its either spark breakdown or fuel starvation. An automatictransmission problem would be best described as a slipping in and out of gear and hard acceleration typically doesn't play a part in it. it either slips or it doesn't as a function of engine speed & load. Check your fuel pump output for pressure and volume to make sure you're getting the fuel you think you are. check replace your plugs, points& cond/wires/cap/ and rotor. It could be a coil electrical strength issue( but unlikely). It really sounds like low float level or poor accel pump performance if the electrical side parts don't fix it. good luck
