pullin the 289 out this weekend.
i bought a cherry picker and an engine stand tonight. and im gonna pull my engine this weekend. while its out, im gonna clean up the engine compartment. anyone ever done this to a large extent? i want it looking cherry under the hood. should i completely strip all the paint thats there or what? ideas?
sounds good to me, i love a 289, GREAT GREAT engine
as for detailing and engine compartment a good pressure washing wouldnt hurt, and some black paint would do it good also

who's actually building? that has an effect. a rebuilt kit is like 250 bucks for everything, then add machine work. could do it for under 1,000 bucks if your assembling
If you do some searches - you'll find a lot of info on cleaning engine bay. I plan on doing it this winter and from what I read is get down to bare metal, paint stripper and wire brush. Sand with 180, prime and paint. For paint I heard krylon semi gloss or satin black is the best match to original. I've used it on interior metal dash and was real happy with it. Have had good luck with krylon - dries prety quick. I've seen gloss balck on engine bays and unless perfect shows all the flaws. Satin is more foregeiving. good luck.
If the paint in the engine compartment is solid, I would NOT take it to bare metal. If you do take it to bare metal, you should use a self etching primer under your top coat paint. Regular paint and primer doesn't adhere as well to bare metal.
a pretty mean pressure wahsr wouldnt get rif of the paint down to metal right??? my paint is in terrible shape. so its gotta go. whats the fastes way to get rid of it? how much does it cost to get a car sand blasted?
