Default RE: Engine Problems

This pink wire issue: Is the entire wire the resistor or is it a section that I can easily locate and cut out. I don't mind replacing this wire as I've already had to re-wire 70 of the car already. The previous owner was kind enought to attempt to install an aftermarket stereo and managed to burn out majority of the car's electicals...

Also for a clean install I would like to use the existing wire harness as my connection from under the hood to the interior... I could check the wire at the ignition end to see if the voltage is appropriate right? Shouldn't it read 12volts on the meter? I find it strange that Pertronix don't mention this anywhere in their troubleshooting guide (slackers [:-])

By the way I think this is the coolest forum for Mustang Enthusiasts...

The pink wire starts at the back of the ignition switch and is easy to locate because it is covered with an insulating tube. I cut mine at the back of the switch leaving just enough to connect to regular wire with a butt connector. I use the kind with solder and heat shrink tube cuz they're bullet proof. The pink wire doesn't run all the way to the coil but a schematic would show where the transition to regular wire begins. I was lazy and just ran the new wire all the way to the coil.

Actually Pertronix does mention all this in the installation procedure. There's a test they suggest where you check the voltage at the coil. If you have ballast wire the voltage is a lot lower than 12v. I did and it was only something like 8v (as I remember).

Also, you can gap your plugs wider with the Pertronix system. I have mine at .045, and they burn a little hotter than the recommended .032 with points.
