Default should i put a 351 in a 65?

I have a 289 in my 65 mustang. The engine is getting pulled this winter and just redone. What I did come accross was a 351 with a high rise elderbrock carb for $250 to drop down in it. How hard will that be? Is there any cutting or welding that will need to be done? will the trans match up? Will it fit? do I need to beef the front end up?

im doin the same thing to my 67, my guess would be that the motor mounts will probrably need to be moved/beefed up and depending on wat trans u have, they make a bolt up kit so that the bell housing matches up with the motor. (but anyone please tell me if im wrong)

I believe the 351 needed a C-6 transmission especially if the motor is beefed up??

Is it a windsor or clevland you'll be using??? either way it'll be a tight squeeze on a 65 ..you may end up having to mod the shock towers a little for header clearence...as for tranny...a c-4 will be fine and will bolt to a windsor no problem

Yeah, a 351W can generaly fit into the 65/66's without cutting stuff, but you need the right headers and it's a snug fit. Changing spark plugs will be a pain, but most performance guys find it acceptable for the increased power of a 351W over a 289/302. As far as motor mounts, I'd reccomend Lakewood's Muscle Mounts, it's basically a beefed up version of the factory rubber type ones, heavy duty vulcanized, very sturdy. The factory ones with my old engine would last a couple of months and start cracking from the power(I drive vigourously at times), but the muscle mounts I have with the new engine that has quite a bit more power, have been in there for a while now, and not a problem. They still isolate some of the vibration but are pretty solid. They were a bit difficult to get to line up to run the bolts through when I dropped the engine, so I'd imagine it'd be even harder with a 351 from the more limited clearance. At least you won't have to replace them allt he time though.

It does have the origanal 3 speed in it. So do I need to get new headers that will fit better in my car and what kind do you guys recommend. Thanks a lot on the motor mount advise will defintly go with your option.
What do you think we are looking money whise?
