On my 66 the main thing that holds the cluster in tightly is speedometer cable. Once that is removed I get about 6 more inches of movement. Maybe the same for you. And you can get the bulbs at any auto store.

plus 1, on the speedometer cable. also check the other wires, maybe their caught on something behind the dash.

on a side note. how does the steering column cover come off? i already have the steering wheel and horn assembly off. but cant get inside the column for the damn turning signal switch.

If you have all the screws out (there are9 of them), you still must unplug the guage plug (squeeze the top and bottom and pull ) and disconnect the speedo cable. There are4 screws behind the dashthat cannot be removed without removing the dash.

Are you talking about getting the stalk out? It just unscrews. And thecam under the wheel is held in with 3 screws.

1)ok so thats how you get the main wiring harness out? you just push in on each tab top and bottom?

2)as for the spedo cable i cant budge it. how does it come out? btw my spedometer doesnt work and i thought it was probably the cable missing but it is there so maybe its lose? how do i get the cable to work?

3) i dont think the pod is gonna come out without removing the steering column cover. will it? if not how do i remove that?

3)i have to replace the bulb in the heater controll and it wont budge. i took a photo of it. i think its the black cable in the center. it has a pos and neg wire connected to it. it doesnt wanna move.

im replacing the bulbs witha led kit. and it comes with a new wiring paper thing so ill need to get this outa here. it should be this hard.

I am on duty and the pics wont show at work. Damn red X. On my car, the speedo cable just screws in. Sorry, I am not sure what it is like on a 70.

There is an area on the white plug that must be squeezed to release the speedo cable, it may take quite an effort to get it to come out. The steering column cover is held on with two screws on the bottom, one on each side of the column. That heater control light plug should pull out. You've got to remember that it's likely these things have not been apart in almost 40 years and doing so will take some effort.
