Default Carb

I am replacing my 2 barrel carp with a 4 barrel. Looking at purchasing a autolite 4100 spreadbore from pony carburetors. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Fred

Of course. there are Holley and Edelbrock units available also. Its all about price and preference. The holley and edelbrocks will be about half of the price of a Pony 4100.

I didn't think that Ford did a spread bore carb?... I know I have never seen a spread bore intake for a Ford before... so you will have to buy an adaptor plate.

I don't believe the 4100 is a spreadbore but I have no experience with it either. I own a holley 4150 (-4160?) for my 66.

My 66 shop manual shows the 4100 as a std bore.

Pony carbs takes old 4100 and turns them into spreadbores.

Personally, I wouldn't give money to Pony carbs unless I wanted something for a concourse-level show car. They do a good job, but I think they're way too proud of their work.

You can get a rebuildable 1.08 venturi 4100 off ebay for less than $100 and then buy a $20 rebuild kit from your favorite parts store and come out way ahead. Autolite carbs are about as simple as they come. If you have even the slightest bit of mechanical aptitude, you can rebuild one.

Otherwise, I'd rather spend money on a new Holley or Edelbrock carb than go to Pony Carbs.

If the intake and carb are the only changes , I would go to the small size. I used to have a 525 Carter afb that worked great for that swap.
Carter or Edelbrock almost identical both made by webber.

Uh, no they're not. Edelbrocks use the Carter AFB design (modified, but mostly the same), and Edelbrock is an independant company. Weber is completely different.

Look they are bats everywhere! Road trips to las vegas and never left the couch.
