It has to be a K code car to have a factory 289/271. Does it have a solid lifter cam? Does it have valve spring pockets in the heads? Does it have a wide harmonic balancer on the crank? If the answer is no to any of these questions, it's not a HiPo. In addition, it should have a dual point distributor without a vacuum advance. It should also have HiPo exhaust manifolds. This should help: http://www.hipomustang.com/images/hipoeng/
the guy i bought my car from thought it was a "K" code just because it was a 4barrel carb car,you can buy emblems like cobra etc just like you could 30yrs ago they are easily added
I bought my first Mustang in 1972. A silver 66 fastback that was a real A code/4 spd.GT. The front disc brakes were a pita. Anyhow, the first thing I did was get a set of "High Performance" emblems for the front fenders. BTW, I paid all of $650.00 for that car and it was in excellent shape.

GT package could only be ordered w/ A or K code cars. What tranny do you have. Hi-Po was only cruise-O- matic and 4 speeds.Worse comes to worse, see if you have solid lifters.

and i know there is no way my uncle would have put these emblems on the car,...
