Default RE: Battery Recommendations

I recommend Optima Red Tops as well. My toys generally sit for weeks on end and they always have power to start and run without issue.

Without looking at any of the 10 replies posted now I say OPTIMA FTW......

Now I will look at the other replies to see where I stand....

<< Edit>> Well it looks like I am in the majority, or close anyway..... Oh,,, and red top as well. My son has had one in his truck for a little better than 3 years.... put one in the 66 several months ago, sometimes we go more than 2 weeks without a start and it goes every time with no complaints.>>

<<2nd edit>>A few weeks ago my son gave me a ride to the Texas Road house in his truck. When we got out he left his headlights on. We were inside for over an hour, and when we came out it started right up... not bad for a three year old....>>

Regarding the blue top Optimas, there are two kinds, a deep cycle (a la Yellow Top) and conventional (a la Red Top). With my Jeep, I've been through them all and currently have a deep cycle blue top. If you're looking for a more conventional looking batter of similar or better quality, check into the Odyssey.

FWIW,I can see spending this extra money on a battery for a Jeep (winches can draw 400+ amps), massive stereos and lights or a battery that will sit for many months at a time, but for a regular car, save your money. Any battery you get today will be many times better and more powerful than original and will also come with a good warranty.

BTW, you can get Odysseys and Optimas at pretty good prices at www.batteryweb.com

+1. I agree, today's batterys are all about the same until you go exotic. I can't see spending the money for an Optima, when i can get a $59 autolite that starts the car just as good.

One issue that hasn't really been touched yet, is that the Optimas don't seem to get acid on everything. After cleaning up an engine compartment etc. I hate the idea of sulphuric acid getting on stuff. This is the main reason I have gone to Optima for my project cars.... + they look cool IMO
