Anyone ever hear of a cam going flat? I was told this could be one of my problems, but I have never heard of it. I am assuming it means one of the lobes is bad.
So, if it is flat, then when I turn the engine over (by hand, right?) the valves over that lobe will not move. Makes sense. Guess that is what I will be doing this weekend.
rough idle, lack of power, eventually screetching noises as the metal particulate (swarf) embeds into the bearings and slowly grinds away the crank journals.
Vacuum needle will be low pulse rythmically with the rpm.
So what makes you think you have a flat cam?
I had a buddy look at it cuz it runs kinda rough, has a misfire on the right side, and backfires. He is pretty knowledgeable, and he talked to some of his friends, and they said that is what they think it is. He is not charging or doing any of the work, so I know he aint just making stuf up to ring up a bill. I dont know if I am convinced this is what happened, but I am gonna check it this weekend.
I had a cam go flat in my 408 a few bout two weeks after I installed it.... I had to replace the cam and lifters, but I went with a significantly more agressive setup.
I sort of wish that I would wipe a lobe.. I just rebuilt mine with the edlebrock performer plus, and as a few people were telling me,, i am wanting more power already.. If I wiped a lobe, I would have to replace it and therefore be able to go bigger!! Just like superdavid! Dont get me wrong,, it goes good.. I think Im just ansy for the 500 mile mark where I can open her up..
