Stupid question--- c4 auto
on the c4 auto gear selector what is the difference between the white dot and the green dot. they are both drive, and one is much slower but i dont know what it does to the transmission.
Green dot is normal 1 -2- 3 shift patern. White dot is 2 -3, soyou take off in 2nd and it changes to third normally . Forget it. Use the green one.
Im not looking at my shifter at the moment, so I may have the green white around the wrong way, but the position you want is one up from 'L'

It actually makes alot of sense. Alot of people with manual tranny's start in 2nd gear when it is slick outside. Same principle. I had a 85 bmw and when it snowed it was a pain in the a$$ to take off in 1st gear. Spent the whole winter and never used first cuz all it would do is spin and push the rear of the car out[:@]
Yep, 2nd gear when it's slick. Ford changed this in '68 (IIRC) because they were having warranty problems with the C-4's, people were driving in the "winter" mode and wearing it out too soon. This is what I've read and may not be totally accurate.
It shouldn't. The white dot right after neutral is 2-3. The green dot is 1-2-3. If you were a dork like me and bought the repro owners manual, it even states in there that it is set up like that for slippery conditions.
For normal driving, you put the shift lever in the green dot position.
