Default crate or build

does anyone have an idea of the price difference of buying a used 289 and rebuilding it or getting a crate?

I would rebuild it.. I rebuilt my 289 completely and cost me less than $1000. I dropped it off at machine shop... then put it together a few weeks later... I even put a high performance kit also..

It all depends on what you are doing to the engine.

About all you can really do is find an crate engine you like take the parts listed for it and price all the parts youself and compare. I work for a crate engine builder from us shipping should be around $100 and no sales tax if you have it shipped. They only charge sales tax to instate customer or if the engine is picked up.www.tandlengines.com

rBlown22 if you don't mind me asking could you do a breakdown of the machine shop costs? How much did the dynamic balancing cost you? did you upgrade to 3/8" rod bolts?
Thanks
Kip

So you still have to buy a motor regardless if its a crate or old 289?

I have a rebuilt 289 with LT headers(about 500 miles on it), c4 trans(original, not rebuilt), and rear end from a 66 I'll sell you. I need to make space for project this summer [sm=badbadbad.gif].

I'm in NC, so let me know if you are interested.
