Default timing chain...

During a cam swap would it be highly recommended or just a decent idea to cange the timing chain.Motor only has about 8ooo miles on it. Its a late model non ho 5.0 replacement motor. And if soe is gear drive a good idea.Im not much into the sound tho.

+1 on a new chain, unless you KNOW a good double roller is in there now and has low miles

-1 on a gear drive, i've been down that road and they are lame.

spend about 40.00 on a cloyes double roller and you'll be a happy camper who didn't get ripped off.

Yeah, stay away from the drive gears. Every engine I've heard with one is extremely noisy, and there's no reason for one on a street car.

Yeah, stay away from the gear drive unless you want the noise. Timing chain replacement is cheap but if you have a metal gear chain already, replacement is probably not requiredafter 8k miles.
