genetator vs battery
I have had a 64.5 mustang for about a month. I has a generator. All of the sudden, the battery isn't charging. By the marks on the battery it looks like it is only a year old(Interstate). It has openings to add water (not maintainace free), so maybe it is a 1994 and not a 2004. Anyway I can charge the battery on a charger and the cars runs great for 2-3 days, then the battery dies again. The generator light comes on when the car is being started and not while the car runs, so I assume the generator is working well. Is this a correct assumption and I should blame the problem on the battery? Also what is the difference between a generator and an alternator?

A generator is going to give you less current, as well as take more rpm's to make current, whereas an alternator will give you more recharge at lower rpm (sitting at a stop light). If your light is coming on after it is running you may want to get it checked, heck, most auto parts places will test your whole system for free and let you know exactly what's going on. Unless you're this total 'original' buff I'd reccomend putting an alternator in, esp if you're getting a stereo. You can buy chrome brackets for about $25. This will also take a crap load of weight off the front end. Just my 2 cents....

If the generator light isn't stying on, I would first have the battery tested. If it is good, then have the generator tested. You may even want to replace the voltge regulator at this time. The regulator may not be putting out juice.
