Ok im upgrading from my i6 to a 302 (all rebuilt). Im woundering with a budget of about $3000 what can i do to get more horsepower out of the motor. what would some of you do with a rebuilt 302 and 3000 dollars?

 

i would get a 5 liter, get a bigger cam, heads, intake. you will still have money left over, use for a 9 in or something along those lines. or.... you could get a stroker kit, i think they run around 2g;s?

Sell the 302 and save up until a company named Classin Inline starts producing their supercharger. Yeah thats right they are in the process of making a supercharger that will be made for the I6.

at the same time when you upgrade to 302 or in case you're supercharging, you will need:
- different rear axle,
- front spindles, preferrably disc brakes
- dual master cylinder (in case you have a single master)
- new wheels and tyres all around

and I'd say that's your 3 grand spent.
if you leave the car as is and drop 250HP in there you'll have the axle killed in a few weeks ...

 

331 stroker kit = 1000.00
185cc patriot heads = 900.00

that leaves 1100.00 for machine work, gaskets, cam, intake, and you'd have money leftover for a quality carb and ignition.

ive always been under the impression to get more power out of the i6 you have to spend alot more for parts rather then the v8
