Hot damn, we got the new rrear gears installed today, transmission output shaft seal replaced and it drives like it was brand new......OK, maybe now BRAND new, but its still a hell of a lot better than it was. We took it out on the highway and it just purred along at about 65 without over-revving the engine. We also replaced the leaf spring front bushing (not a fun job) and have pretty much eliminated any wheel hop there was. Next thing will be a new dual exhaustsystemusing Thrush glasspacks.
We took out a set of 4:11's and installed some 3:00's. We have a 302 2V with a T-10 backing it up. The 300's make fora good cruising gear...the son delievers for Pizza Hut and the 411's were way to high for round-town-driving. Laughs...they weren't much good for highway driving either. We'er hanging onto the 411's because someday he wants to get a T-5.
4.11's will provide better mileage in town. The engine has to work less to get the car moving from the stops needed. The key would be to drive sensibly.
this is true, after he has the car for a few years he will calm down a bit. a 289 is a good v8 to start with though, its not incredibly fast, but with some work they can be monsters
