Is a 289 really that repectable?
Everyone i know is saying that they will give me this give me that for my 289 with <60k miles on it. Not only an I aperently stupid for not really wanting it but im also stupid for wantin to trade it for a 5.0 that im gonna make into a 302. Whats so great about a 289 am i missing something?
ford decided in the late 70's that metric was FTW, ever since then 302's were 5.0's...... there is no other reason.
and to the OP, as stated the 289 revs quicker and the small difference in cubic inches is trivial. the better rod/stroke ratio of the 289 makes it all around a better motor. plus, 302's / 5.0's are like a dime a dozen - but a 289 is a 289

A5.0 is a 302! Like I said my 1985 GT is a 5.0 but it came with a carburetor from the factory. The term 5.0 usually refers to a roller hydraulic version of a 302. But it is still a 302.
what do you kno i learmed some thing. Well are you trying to say that a 5.0 isnt as great as a 289 im not doing this to make it worth more or anything i want more power with a smaller stroke. it just seams if i didnt do this i would have to catch up to a 5.0s power then continue to do what i was already gonna do with the 5.0 pluse the 5.0 has a t-5
if your 289 only has 60k then i personally wouldnt swap as long as it runs good, the biggest gain in going to a late model 302 is the ability to run a roller cam, and the factory forged pistons 5.0ho.. Personally id use the 289 and order some afr165 heads a good cam, headers intake and carb youll be right around 400hp
