Engine Trouble
Well one somehow I managed to blow all the oil seals in the engine. So now since I don't know a whole lot about engines it has to be taken apart and fixed and possibly even replaced with something other than a non-HiPO 289 so it looks like im going to be in the hole for a while finacially and its not going to get painted for a really long time.

I have a hard time believing this. How long has it been since the engine has been rebuilt?
On my first read of this I am inclined to believe that some kind of narcissist told you this.

Clean up the engine with some degreaser really, really well and then try to find where the leak or leaks are.
YEAH,I got to agree with JMD!! ALL THE SEALS? Very hard to believe, clean it as spotless as possible and you will find your leak or leaks!! Also when you say seals are you talking about the front and rear seal or Valve guide seals? You need to be a little more specific, you do not really say you have oil leaks just blown seals.I think if you were a little more specific about the problem someone here could definitely help you!!!Does it run? Is it smoking real bad?Let us know!![sm=badbadbad.gif]
Man, you have a trulyunique Mustang. Please think carefully before making *any* changes.
Writing from a lot of experience here, I'd highly suggest you talk to some quality, knowledgeable, Mustang folks in person before proceding. At least take some time to read and understand what makes a '65 K code car. There are date codes all over that car, remove, or change the wrong things (like the carburetor for instance) and you've lost the valueof it'suniqueness. Even the wrong gasket and seal set can change the perspective value.
Good luck,

LOL all the seals.
sorry but thats just funny. theres no way to "blow out" all the seals in an engine. explain to us whats wrong with the engine...does it make wierd sounds? does it run? does it sound like its knocking? cause you cant "blow" a seal. whether its a main seal or a valve guide seal.

Haha I guess I was pretty vague on that huh.
I replaced the oil pump about a month ago and I talked to a mechanic that helped me do it and he said that if the oil light comes on again to bring it and let him look at it. Well it came on two days ago and mind you this is a mechanic I really trust he's been good to my family over the years. He said my rear main seal was somehow blown or something and it was in the oil pan or something like that I'm not sure I fully understood him but he told me where to take it to have someone help me with it.This other mechanic said he would fix it and check the other seals and if they weren't any good he told me I might have to rebuild or replace the engine (it has never been rebuilt.) I can't afford a new HiPO engine and I know a guy in san antonio who has a 289 (in pieces) in his garage that he will give me. I think that is the jest of it I'm not sure how the rear main seal is broken or blown or whatever I just know that our family mechanic friend told me it was.
I don't know a whole lot about engines and I'm trying to learn more and I'm doing this resto on my own with help from people on this forum or people I know so sorry if my comments are really vague. I don't want to replace this engine unless I have to because I know it is worth a lot of money and it is very unique. I wish I could retain its uniqueness but the problem with that is that I can't afford the parts that keep it that way.
After the engine mechanic tells me more I will update you guys. I really appreciate all the help you provide for me because really and truly its the best advice I get.

a) building a motor some other guy has "in pieces" would be just as expensive as rebuilding yours
b) the rear main seal may indeed be leaking, you can replace it, along with your oil pan gasket, and even your front main seal for about 20-30 dollars and a little bit of your time.

OK Now that we gave something to go by it sounds like a rear seal leaking! Trust me you can fix this really cheap.Go get an oilpan gasket set and a rear main seal and some gasket sealer! It should not cost more than$25-$30.Its an easy fix even if you have never done it! Go get a book on small block ford motors as it will be very usefull to you as you learn to do it yourself! To me half the fun is learning to do something you couldn't do before.Maybe you could find someone here on the forum that lives near you to help you with it if necessary!!Either way Good luck!![sm=signs003.gif]
