Default heater hose intake location ?

dont know if the title made much sense, but, i bought a summit racing intake for my 302 and i went to put the valve which the heater hose attaches to so the that the coolant can return in to the intake. i know on the stock intakes its right behind the thermastat housing but the hole for the valve on the new intake is to big, but it fits in a hole on the right side is it ok to attach it there and run the hose there... as long as it is putting the coolant back in the intake.

Youcan get a elbow to fit the new intake. If you move the fitting, it may change the routing of the hoses.

The answer is yes you can move it, but you will still need a place to put the heat sender. We reduced the hole with a bushing.

You also need to get a proper flow-reducing elbow for that connection, not just a cheapo generic fitting. The correct elbow will have a flow restrictor built into them, a portion of the tube that narrows, as well as a tube that extends out into the coolant passage so that you don't get air sucked up into the heater core.

Most Mustang suppliers have this piece readily available.

Get an adapter and route it back to the same spot.It really doesn't matter as far as the cooling part but you still want to keep everything in the same place if at all possible[sm=gears.gif]

I would recomment an adapter to reduce the size of the hole. The only other hole with coolant behind it should be for the temp sender.Adapters are very common.

I always ran my heater hose from the back of the engine. Still plenty of heat and a little bit cleaner under the hood.

Then I really cleaned it up and removed all heater hoses.

colorado, where did you put this on the rear of the engine? Was it on the engine or the intake?

go to the hardware store and buy a brass fitting. It won't rust and it's cheaper

Exactly. IIRC, aftermarket intakes use a 3/4" NPT fitting for the heater elbow. Heck, try the auto parts store if nothing else as I think I've seenthem there.
