Sound deadening *update*
I posted pictures last week of exactly how much of your car you can cover with 50 square feet of sound deadening. It actually went alot further than I thought it was going to. I finished all 100 square feet late Friday night, here's some pictures...
Firewall and floor well covered, firewall and transmission area double layerd..

Roof well covered, area over driver side double layerd..

Scrap pieces fit nicely around the edges of the roofline, behind the "framing"..

Wheel wells (doubled), self-made rearseat divider, cabin/trunk divider (dunno the name of it), and roof pillarscovered...

I put a layer on the backside of the interior quarter panels. Since I have my window mechanisms in, I couldnt do the inner quarterpanels or inner doors...yet...

Gastank and trunk floor above differential..

Official inspection
"whoa, what's going on in here...?"

right on looks like you covered pretty much what i did, and I still have maybe 25 sq feet left. Does your roof have a weird brace thingy from side to side? my 69 doesn't have that so it just looks weird to me
Looks like you did a great job though, ever find that heat gun? haha

David, yes, there is a metal "rib" that runsacross the ceiling right in the middle. Im sure it braces the roof somewhat and also gives the dome light something to attach to. I found the gun in the basement at work, but I dont think I need it much anyways. I took extra time to prevent folding..
Wind noise, rain I guess, summer heat...i could hear the roof "flexing" when i blew it off with my airgun, like lightly shaking a cookie sheet. So at highway speeds that has to do something a bit more...

just like a house, keep you cool in the summer (w a/c) and warm in the winter. also probably keeps out some extra noise.

Whats the benefits of doing the roof?
Whats the benefits of doing the roof?
yes with the roof if will help with heat insulation as well as wind noise. Your head is closest to the roof, so whatever noise it produces is probably what you will hear most.
Oh and about that middle rib, that would make sense, I always wondered how that dome light attached because with my car I don't have one and was just thinking.. do the screws go through the roof? hahaha
