NY Title question
Can someone from New York help me out - this is confusing the hell out of me. I bought a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 from a guy in WI, came with the title from WI all signed correctly. The DMV site and an email states that they dont give out titles for cars older than 1972 - so what do i do? I have proof of purchase and the original title. Do i need insurance on it even thought it's not going to be on the road for at least 3 months? Do I need registration on it before I drive it on the road?
I've never owned a car in the States before - all company cars and I'm from Wales.

You dont need car insurance if the car is going to be sitting on your property or something. Even if it is parked on a street it is illegal. You most likely have a time window where you dont need to have registration on it, but I would not recommend pushing that.
I cant help you with the other stuff, im from colorado.

To get the car transfered to your name, you'll have to register it. To register it in the state of NY, you have to get insurance. NY does not title cars 1972 (73?)and older. Instead, they issue what is called a "transferable registration". It's your registration, proof of ownership and transfer document all on one little piece of paper. And yes, you need to register it before you drive it.
you are going to have to pay ny tax on the car when registering the car....so make sure you have a bill of sale....if you bought the car for 10000 you are ging to owe about 825 dollars....so the cheaper the purchase price the less tax...get my drift?
