Default electric choke

I am sure that you all get questions about electric choke all the time. I feel dumb asking this, but could some of you all post pictures of exactly where you wire your electric choke into. I have a 1969 Ford Torino GT with a 351 Winsor, so I am very sure it will be the same as a mustang. I know some people do connect it to the back of the alternator or the I post on the starter relay. I dont want to do this. I would rather wire it into something else. Thanks.

You can tap into the heater power wire as well. I've got mine running to the coil +, which isn't a fantastic idea, but I haven't got around to tapping into the heater wire yet.

don't connect to battery+ as it'll run all time (drains battery and you'll never have a cold setting) -- forget about it
coil+ is another idea, so it would run as soon as you have ignition on, but not recommended as it pulls too much power there.
what everyone recommends is to connect it to alternator+, so it will run _only_ when engine is running.

there was a post with more details about 1-2 month ago. you should find it searching the forums

Mine is wired to the ignition switch, turn the key on, tap the throtle, choke closesand hit the starter. As far as pulling to much juice, I don't know, but mine has been like that for over year!

Don't run it to your alternator, people have told me that it won't get you your full power that you need.

I have a 69 and I ran mine to the wire that is only on when the ignition is on for my windshield wipers. My wiper assembly is in teh cowl, so I was able to run a wire into that straight from the engine bay.

I just looked for pics and couldn't find it, if I run across them i'll post them for you

Many electric chokes are designed to run on full source voltage, 12-14V, not the reduced voltage you're getting from the stator terminal on the alternator. I actually did try to run my setup off the alternator and realized that the choke was taking forever to disengage. Edelbrock's instructions actually recommend against using the stator terminal as a voltage source. Hence why I'm still running off the coil, which I'm feeding source voltage to (stock is only ~8V there as well).

Run it to the Ignition or to the heater power wire!!You need 12V to make it work properly![sm=badbadbad.gif]
