Engine Bay Wire Detailing
Does anyone have a source on how to do this properly. I would like to do what I have seen several of you do and that is hide the wires and most of the vacuum hoses etc. I even like how some of the spark wires have been done.
do you mean like wire covers? I have some on my car I'm going to put some more on the hoses!!https://mustangforums.com/photo.asp?...=6&apage=1
Not exactly. What I mean is like no wires are showing under the hood. They are ran on the opposite side of the fender out of view. I have seen it done on show cars and it looks great.

Here is his website on it. Hopefully it will help out.

We just ran our wires low and behind the engine as much as possible, only coming up to connect to the things they needed to connect to.
I brought all of the engine wires around along the frame rail and then up at the solenoid to connect all of the sensors, alternator, AC, etc. I ran nothing across the engine not even the heater hoses. Everything went around. I brought all of the engine stuff in along the right frame rail, and all of the lights, horn, etc. along the left frame rail.
With this placement the wires are nearly completely out of sight, but still accessible if need be.
We had the advantage of using an aftermarket wiring setup that gave us plenty of length.
Just "think clean"... and never make that final cut until you are absolutely sure that you have everything exactly where you want it. It really sucks to come up with a better idea only to discover that you have cut the wires too short to make the new idea work.... Yea,,, I know....

JMD.. I think you used the Ron Francis kits correct? Was it the "Ford Powered Express Wiring" or "Mustang Custom Harness" kit? Were the standard lengths long enough for this or did you request longer wires? I'm ordering my new harness tomorrow I think and would like to do the clean look.

I don't know what kit I ordered! I just called and told the man what kind of car I was putting the kit into,he asked a few questionsand that was all... I did not get extra length wires. The only wire that ended up short was the gas tank sender, but if I would have taken a more direct route there would have been more than enough wire.
You will have more than enough wire with the standard kit.
Best advice I can give you is to lay everything out very carefully, get everything right where it will be prior to cutting any wires... they don't grow back...

Give yourself plenty of working room at the fuse box, leave the wires kind of long (but neat and organized)here and then move your harness up out of the way when you are done. It might look a little cleaner if you don't follow this step but you will appreciate the additional room to work by leaving them longer.
It is easy to manipulate a few wires at a time, but the bundle around the fuse panel will get thick and difficult to manipulate if too short... (ask me how I know!)
Ok thats exactly what I wanted to know. Oh and yes.. I plan on leaving a small coil of extra wire from the panel. I've done a lot of network wiring (a few entire schools and office building) and I know the advantage in keeping a bit of slack in that area.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.Thread
