Default Questions for the experts!!

Hi All. Just Bought a 66 Fastback with a 302 a few week ago and have some questions. the 20yr old kid i bought it from must have never opened the hood(very dirty with little leaks) the car is in great shape. the interior is all new and redone in leather, air conditioning, new paint, new t-5 tranny, rack and pinion steering, power steering, power brakes(disc front). i noticed a little leak at the water inlet at the top of the timing chain cover, how hard to do myself?? thanx

Sounds like you got a great car! Congrats on your purchase!

I am not sure just where you are saying the leak is... If it at the thermostat housing it is an easy fix, if it is leaking at the timing cover water pump joint still easy but a little harder.

If leaking where the timing cover meets the block, it is harder, even out of the "easy" category.. but still not that bad. The worst part of this fix is that the harmonic balancer will have to come off..

<<BTW,,, good choice for your thread title.... "Questions for the experts!!"

This will ensure that all of us with big heads will address your post...>>

Oh yea,,, duh... Welcome to the forum!!

its leaking at the inlet behind the water pump below the thermostat housing. does the oil pan come into play when replacing the timing cover??

Have you tried simply retorqing bolts. Sometimes in the cold weather shift it can induce a little leak here and there and a simple trist on the rachet can sometimes fix the problem.
