Mine installed a tach and radio but never bothered to hook either of them up. He also installed a power antenna that he was so proud to show off, of course it wasn't even connected to the non-working radio. He also had a wire coming off of the carb that was "needed" to start it, the funny part is the carb was a manual choke demon. He also installed power windows in non power window car(and did a decent job of it), yet when it came to connecting it to the wiring harness he just decided to use blade connectors jammed into the fuse box. Also, the wiring harness was completely butchered for no fathomable reason. Oh, and then there were the unmatched front coil springs, one was at least 2" shorter than the other. The short one was so loose I pulled it out by hand.I know I'm forgetting some other things he did but this is all I can remember right now.
The scary part of all this is the guy was an engineer for the local GM plant.

When I bought mine the starter solenoid was blown so the PO just gave me a screwdriver to drive it home with!

Well, the only thing I can really think of on my car is that the previous owner installed a/c but the condesor was broken so it was never hooked up... Pure speculation.... Howeveron a friend scar I saw where his grandpa (the previous owner) used a shoe lace for the throttle linkage [sm=badidea.gif].... I am sure that was not the worst of it, its just what I remember. I also remember a teacher in high school telling me he carries panty hose in his car in case a belt brakes he will use the panty hose... sounds crazy but I wonder if it works...[sm=icon_rtfm.gif]

my PO decided he didn't want power steering so he cut the lines, he also broke the vacuum line that goes into the back of the intake and decided to fix it wit RTV sealer, and lastly he hacked a hole in the middle of the dash to put his cd player, then i guess he changed his mind because he hacked the original bezel up and put it there...
he also advertised it as a matching #'s 289, but it is infact it has a 302 in it out of a 68.

The PO of the 66 bought the car from the first owner, pulled it out of the sand, cleaned it up, had the original 6 cyl rebuilt, threw a budget paint job on, bought misc.do-dads, drove the car a little, then garaged the car for 10 years....

The car was in great condition for a10 year old carwhen we bought it even though it was 40 years old!

No BS repairs or half *** fixes, no abuse or misuse. Nothing loose or hanging, bone stock except for the mid 80s wheels. We had a great PO!

I had to say that, I work with the guy everyday! Not really, every word is true... Judging by what I have read here, as POs go, we had an A+ PO.

Well my PO only did the paint and engine and scoops...he did a great job im the one that did all the "odd" stuff to the car.........lets see.

1) Choke alarm: uses a piezo electric beeper from a truck backup warning system with inline potentiometer to reduce volume. beeps until the manual choke is fully disengauged.
2) Shift alarm: wired into tach replaces shift light with a constant alarm tone when rpm are above shift point.
3) Head light warning alarm: If headlights are on and you open the door it lets you know
4) Fuel cutoff solenoid: blocks fuel flow at carb anti theft device/emergency cutoff
5) cold air box under hood scoop to direct airflow directly into air cleaner.

Thats pretty much the worst of it.

The PO of my car had the engine blow up on them. So they paid 2500 to have it rebuilt and bored .040. The old radio was wire tied into the dash, they didnt know the rear seats had seat belts, and the spark plugs werent properly tightened.

Regarding the pantyhose for belts and beer can repairs...Being 56 years old I clearly remember the "good old days." Yes, a pair of panyhose can replace a broken belt for a short time. Yes, cans were common sources of steel for repairs. Back then, with leaded gas, exhaust pipes did not have much life. You would get hole in a pipe and rather than replace the whole pipe right away you split a steel beer can or coffee can, wrapped it around the pipe and secured it with a couple of hose clamps. These cans were heavy steel. Actually good stuff. You could not crush one with your hand or against your forehead. The natural curve of the split can made it a real easy fix. It usually outlasted the rest of the pipe. Back then, nobody would even dream of replacing a fender or quarter because of rust. Most cars would start rusting in the first year.

My car had several PO's and one of them used an old license plate to fix rust in the passenger side fender that fell out when I pulled it off and cut it out. Of course it was covered in bondo. The rear wheel wells were also rusted and covered in bondo. I love the metal looking tape stuff someone used in my car and also anohter guy I know in his old Buick in the trunks. I guess you just put it over the rust and it goes away lol. That's the worst of it I've found so far. The very last guy that owned it was an engineer and took good care of it though so overall can't complain.

No really weird stuff on mine, just a oversized hole cut in the dash for the radio and the intake manifold bolts were only finger tight.

I'd really like to see that box that you made underneath your hood Gun Jam. Could you post pics please.
