Default 6 to 8

My uncle just gave me a 1989 lincoln cont with a 302 and I was wonder if anyone can tell me if the rear end, enginee and trans will fit into my mustang and if so how much trouble will it be to convert from a straight 6?

Thanks,
Duane

The block would fit, but the pulley system would not be right, the rest I don't know, I doubt it! There have been a lot of threads on the i6 to V8 swap. Try the search. You can learn a lot from that.

+1

We did the conversion in my car to a 408 W. The only thing that I think will fit in your situation is engine and transmission, I imagine the drive shaft is too ong and the rear end is too wide. Also with the conversision a few changes need to be made purchase new mounts and wring harness needs to be beefed up or changed(changed is recommended). With the more powerful engine I would also recommend sub frame connectors... There are quite a few things that go inot it.

Engine will with some wiring plumbing and change the oil pan tranny you need a new cross member make or buy the rear end wont with out alot of work like cutting off the mounting taps welding on spring perchs and probably narrowing it.What year is your mustang if its 64-66 you need v8 spindles hubs and brakes.

Thanks everyone for the input!! I may just remove all the parts from the lincoln that I think may work and measure all parts and decide from there what way to go.I can alway sell the rest of the parts.
