I have 235/60R14's in the rear and 225/60R14's in the front. They're all around shorter than factory tires, butthey sit the car a little lower and I think they look better than ultra tall tires on 14" rims. I'll switch to proper height tires when I get 16's. I did have to bang out the fender lips though.

Saying you want to "keep the 70's in front" doesn't mean a whole lot without knowing the rest of the tire size. 70 is just the aspect ratio, you need the width to come up with an actual dimension. 225/70R14's? 215? In any case, unless you're running 195/70R14's in front and 235/60R14's in the rear (which just doesn't make sense to me), you're going to be running a shorter tire in the rear than in the front, which is just plain wrong. I'd stick with the same aspect ratio all around and just use wider rear tires to get a slightly wider andtaller look, if that's what you're going for.

yep my fronts are 195/70 x14 and I agree with you having a lower profile in back looks kinda dumb. so I may have to go to the 235 for the same "height" ratio.
do you have pic's of your car that I could look at? I saw one at Turkey Rod Run that I really liked but forgot what size tires she was running

No, I don't have any pics of my car with the current tire setup. The back's sagging anyway, so they wouldn't do you much good.

I would really recommend against using that combo. You're talking about having front tires that are 4.5cm wider in the rear than in the front, which will not only look weird, it will handle poorly. Not to mention you'll needwider rims to fit the 235's on.

hmm. i have 215 60R 15's on the front and 245 60R 15's on the back, all on 15 x 7 inch rims. why would he need wider rims?

Because with 195/70R14's he probably has the stock 6" wide rims. You might, maybe be able to fit a 235/60R14 on that rim, but I wouldn't want to be the one to try, and it would look ridiculous if it did work. In the same respect, you're not putting a 195/70R14 on a 7" rim. Even if you got it to seat, it would look absolutely ridiculous.

You've probably got 15x7's on your car. A 215/60 is about as narrow as I'd go with that, and a 245/60 is about as wide as I'd go.

I had a similar set up on a 67 coupe I owned back in the early 90's can't for the life of me remember what the size was but it looked great. Front and rears were matched height. Not worried too much about handling issues, this is a cruiser and will never see fast cornering or anything much over 70mph average driving. But these are all good comments and that is what I was looking for. I agree with making sure the height of the tires will match or I won't do it, it would indeed look dumb. My style steels are 7"x 14's should give me some flexibility.
