Default Hood pins needed?

So from what I've read and been told when using a fiberglass hood you need to add the hood pins. My question is why exactly?

I just got my 68 Shelby fiberglass hood on today, 'roughly' fitted and latched for transport. Trailer is an open transport. Do I need to have the pins on or should it be ok during transport?

They say you need hood pins for one reason if the latch catch on the hood breaks off and the hood flys up its not there fauilt. You should be ok on trailering it like that id put some on it before driving it tho.I use hood pins on most of my cars and trucks to save weight and easier and faster to open the hood if theres a problem.

The pins are needed because the wind will rip the standard hood latch right out of an all fiberglass hood. I have a fibergalss over steel hood and I needed to add pins as well. As soon as the car hit 50 the corners started picking up alot more than comfort levels would permit.

I have hood pins on my regular metal hood because I wanted to add that extra lock feature.

I have purchased them already and plan on installing them later, however I don't want to put them on yet due to all the work we'll be doing to the car. The hood is only roughly fit at this time and will be realligned after we do the body work so location will change quite a bit from where it is now.

Since the issue is lift from the wind think I'd be OK with a ratchet tie down strap running across the hood during transport? Any other suggestions?

I don't think you will run into any issue transporting it.

Umm.. how do hood pins add HP? I know everything you do can affect HP but popping on2 hood pins seems to be a cheap 7 to 10 HP gain.

I went with the 1968 Shelby Complete Hood Pin Kit from Branda Performance.
