steering box question

Default steering box question

is there gear oil or something that goes in the steering box some came out of it i was woundering what kind i havew a 65 with manual steering

technically they are supposed to have gear oil in them, but over time seals would go bad, and rather than replace the seal, people would just pack them with grease

and there really isnt anything wrong with that, it works fine

Actually, they came from the factory with a moly-based grease. That is, when they had grease in them. I have seen quite a few original boxes that didn't have more than a teaspoon of grease in the entire thing.
