Default Dashboard lights to LEDs

Hi all,

I've got a 73 mustang coupe, my high school car, so I'm trying to keep it going.

I'm thinking that I need to replace my dashboard light bulbs. I did it about 14 years ago, now it needs to be done again. I've been thinking about replacing the bulbs with LED replacements.

Questions:

1. Without tearing the dash down, I can't tell what the bulb type is. Does anyone know?
2. Anyone done this, does it work?

I'm expecting a much brighter dash and never ever taking the dash apart again. Any comments?

Thanks,

JF

I'm planning to replace all the bulbs in the car with LEDs during the restore process. My father just did this with his 72 AMC Ambassador SST 2-door hardtopand says its like day/night compared to the standard bulbs. He replaced every last bulb ordering them from someone overseas, said he only had 2 or 3 bad bulbs and it cost him about 125.00 to replace them all. Looking around at the suppliers here in the US and Canada this would cost a small fortune for what they want for a single (well a cluster usually) LED bulb.

While I'm tearing our 67 down next week (being transported later this week finally!!) I'll be writing down all the bulb types and number needed for the whole car. I did a few Googles and searches here but never found a parts list for light bulbs. Posted last month and never got a response regarding it either so I'll just make a note of them all while tearing it down.

Welcome to the forums!

I bought my LED dash lights from this vendor:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=190187565651

He also sells for the later models, up to '73.

They're a little brighter, not by much, but a nice improvement. On a '66, the bulb base is a single contact, bayonet type, perhaps an 1159.

The stock incandescent lamp is an 1895.

I made my own LED lights and they are much brighter, very deep blue.

I put LED bulbs in my dash. They are brighter and not a yellow light like before, the only thing is they won't dim, either on or off.

Try this link, http://www.whitegauges.net/products_list.php?catID=4550. They say you need 7 #194. They are $5 each but $25 shipping. I haven't tried them, but am thinking about it.

Reguarding my last post. I just noticed that the $25 shipping was for international express shipping.

has anyone converted their tailights to LED without a sequential LED kit? I have cougar-style lights and dont want to pay that much for the kit, plus I could care less if its sequential
