Default Custom Auto Sound

Has anyone tried the Custom Auto Sound stereos? Model numbers are something like USA-1, or USA-5.

They look interesting, are they any good?

Based on my experiences with two different CA stereos in two different Mustangs, they are a product that looks better than they perform. As long as you know that and looks are of first importance, you will likely be satisfied with your purchase as was I. If sound quality is your greater priority then you may want to look elsewhere.

Good luck!

have two in use they were purchased at the same time for two different projects...if i were to do it again i would go with a unit in glove box...the quality of sound is not up to the standards i demand from a sound system.....besides most of the time i am listening to the beutiful sounds of the car instead of the radio.....our mustang only has the factory unit and for now that is good enough..

My step dad had one in his 55 chevy few years back it quit working a year later and they wouldn't fix it.Id use a din size radio in the glove box or under the dash or even in a custom console. They are cheaper and sound a lot better then anything i heard out of custom auto sounds units.

Sorry i dont have any first hand experience with that product, as an audio installer i mostly just do all custom fabrications and installs with better head units hidden in glove box, center consoles etc. but as stated earlier, if looks are concerned this seems like a good looking unit.

i paid a lot of money for mine... i bought it in may of 05... quit working in august of 05. unit sounded horrrid while it did work. cheap overpriced garbage, if you install it do it for looks only but becareful installing it the face plate gets dinged easily. there are better options out there.

I've asked this question before with no response, hopefully this time will be better.

There is a company in the FAQ the takes your old radio and redoes it. Does anybody have any experience with them?

When i bought my 66 it had a custom autosound unit in it, which i had bench tested and they said it was completely fried. I bought a new USA1 and I love it. I have heard that they are not the highest quality, but at the moment I have no complaints.

I have had one for a little over a year and it works fine. The older ones might have had some problems, but I have no complaints. I put it in when I built the car so installation was no problem.
