I can definitely tell that it is not an exhaust leak: the noise comes from under the right valve cover.

Seems like a bad news

It might not be too bad. a set of pushrods is like $50 and springs are not too expensive either.
Did you pull the valve cover? If not do that and see if you can see something wrong.A bent pushrod or broken spring sould be apparent. Good luck.

Stop driving it and pull that valve cover off and take a look, will ya [:@]. This is the only why to diagnose the problem. It sounds like you might want to take it to a shop though.

Pull the valve cover and take a look to make sure that nothing is obviously untoward in the valve train. Then disconnect thecoil to distributor'plug'wire and with a remote starter, or a large, insulated wire, jump the solonoidand rotate the engine. Make sure that all of the rockers are going up and down like they should. If there is something wrong or not moving there you should be able to pick it out in just a few rotations of the engine.

However, if that yields nothing then you might be into taking the head off or popping the pan and looking for something there for a scored cylinder wall or a bearing going south.

Huhhh... What kind of oil pressure are you getting? .

Deep engine noises are the worst but when you gotta play like Quincy Jones there's nothing to it but to do it.

The first issue is fixed, that was just a matter of putting more oil in the transmission. It also shifts better now.
Did you put oil or transmission fluid in the Transmission? Dumb question but you also thought you had a c-3 transmission [>:]

I would STOP DRIVING the Stang immediately and check it out or a small problem will turn into a nightmare!!Take the valve cover off and turn the motor over and see if all the push rods, rockers, etc are moving properly.Disconnect the Dizzy wire so the car will not fire up and jump solenoid to turn the motor and you will be able to see if theres a problem.Do you have good oil pressure?Let us know what you find!Good Luck!!

Hi,

No time to take a look this week-end, I drove it this morning to a mechanic.

I'll keep you posted!

but it turned out that there was a plug in the block theat just fell off.
It was used for AGR, which my car doesn't have. maybe you're lucky.

Hi,

I have had a first feedback from my mechanic concerning the terrible noise from my engine. It seems that my oil pressure jauge gave me false information I am still waiting for some news from him but would just like to anticipate the worst case: what if I have been driving my car for the past month with no oil pressure at all (or very very low)?
