shopping list ... any comments ?
Hi all,
as many of you know I'm planning on doing 'the rest' of a I6->V8 conversion.
I bought the car with a V8, but the rest untouched.
As is:
289 V8, 3spd manual (probably the orig), 71/4" integral rearend, 4 lug wheels all around.
4 drums, single master, no power assist. 6cyl spindles in the front.
So here's my shopping list. All of you I6->V8 experts please let me know if I'm missing something.
As mentioned I live abroad and mistakes in my orders will therefore be painful.
(Tyres will be ordered locally in Ireland)
here it goes:
1. from Quickperformance Racing:
================================
9" Housing/Axle Package (64-1/2 Mustang)
- Moser Axles, Axle Bearings, Wheel Studs, & Retainers
- 31 Spline, 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern, 1/2" Studs
Center Section (Assembled)
- New Ford Motorsports 31 Spline Trac-Lock Posi
- New Motive Performance Gears (Choice of Ratio)
- New Timken USA Bearings
full disc brake assembly for the rear (11" discs) with parking brake
All brake lines over the rear axle connecting the calipers, with the distribution block in the back and hose conbnecting to my brake hard line going to rear axle from front of car
From what I have gathered, this will be _everything_ I need for the rear axle not including wheels/tyres
2. form Discbrakeswap:
======================
the famous upgrade kit, which comes with spindles, discs, soft brake line (2), dual master and small parts.
(according to seller hardlines need to be adjusted, fabricated)
3. from summit-racing:
======================
5x CRR-3205712 Wheel, Quick Trick I, 15"x7", 5x4.5" Bolt Circle, 3.75"Backspace
5x GOR-71187 Lug Nuts, Conical Seat, 1/2 in. x 20 RH, Closed End, Chrome Plated Steel, Set of 4
4x GOR-HC216SS Center Cap, Stainless Steel, Polished, Push-Through, 3.300" Diameter, Dome Style, 3.250" tall
1x PCN-505 Universal Joint, Steel, Greasable (size checked with driveshaft and yoke from new rearaxle)
2x KYB-KG5517 Shock/Strut, Gas-a-Just
4. from NPD
======================
Brakeline front: Front sets include lines from the master cylinder to any
distribution blocks or proportioning valves to the front
brake flexible hoses.
65-66 Disc, 4 pcs.................................2265-4 37.95
Rear line runs from either the distribution block or the
proportioning valve to the rear flexible line near the rear
Disc, fact dual exhaust...............2265-6A 26.95
Is that all I need ????
Thanks for any repsonse. All help appreciated.

RE: shopping list ... any comments ?
Kalli...check the back space on your rear wheel selection..3.75 on a 7 inch wide wheel sounds like a problem with stock width rearend...are the rear springs in good shape(no sag)? will you need new U-bolts?

RE: shopping list ... any comments ?
good point about the U-Bolts. I'll get them in as well. (the ones for the U-Joint as well the ones for the leaf springs maybe).
the rear springs are as old as the car and I cannot afford replacing them now as well I guess. The list is getting bigger and bigger.
the wheels: i have no idea about which bs to use. they come as 4.5" bs and 3.75" bs. everyone tells me 4.5" will not fit, so I thought I go for the 3.75". Any ideas ?

I got new u-bolts when I went from 8" to 9" rear end. I got them from summit, comp. eng. ubolts. I like them, they needed to be a little bigger, radius wise. You should replace old ubolts anyways.+1 on new shocks. Iwould absoutely make sure your backspacing is correct for those wheels with the rear disc setup. It's knida hard to know for sure when you don't have the rear end assembled and installed to double check. It would suck to get everything boltedup and your wheels not fit right.The proper bs determines how the wheels will sit under the car. You don't want them too far in or too far out. It's tricky to get them to sit just right.Don't guess on that. I've been struggling with getting the properinfo for my setup. I went with 17X8 on the front with 4.5"bs and 17X10 on the rear with 5.5"bs. Don't have the wheels yet, but I was able to measure and this should clear. Fingers crossed. Good Luck.

RE: shopping list ... any comments ?
i think the 4.5 bs is an issue on the front and 3.75 are needed to clear the disc brakes on the front...but i could be wrong...i have drum on all four corners and am using 4.25 bs on our 65 with no issues
