Default New carpet...

I finished all my sound deadening/heat insulation last night so I put my new carpet in and it fits like CRAP. I tried to smooth it out for about 10 minutes and it got alittle better but still not as good as I would like. Any advice? Maybe I just need to give it time to fit better....

Ok, Ill try the heat idea. Putting it outside isnt going to work in 10 degree weather[8D]

ya, you need the carpet to be warm and have weight on it. I used a huge set of weights from my exercise room, and some other heavy stuff to make it fit right. I also put a space heater in the car when I was doing it and shined some big lights that get pretty hot on it. if I needed heat in a specific place I used a hair dryer cuz I dont have a heat gun. Good luck, and dont torch your interior!

Ok, the weights sound like a good idea. I was stomping around on it yesterday and it fitted it alittle better. It seems like the biggest problem is that its very stiff from being rolled up in my bedroom's corner for over a year and doesnt want to lay flush against the floor. The driveshaft tunnel seems to be the worst area. Tonight I'll put my 1000watt work lights inside there and do some more stompin'.

Also, it seems the carpet is about 2-3 inches too wide on each side. Does this tuck under the scuff plate (sill plate) or something?

when ive looked at buying carpet, it always says that "will need to be trimmed to fit correctly" stuff. mabeye you just need to get the box cutter for the sides

ya, i made sure (like quadruple checked) that everything was right and then trimmed it carefully leaving some space to go under the trim.

I just love reading here all the little things like this.. Sort of preps me for what I'm in for quite often!

Makes note.. at carpet time lay carpet night before in car with a heater on low all night.. install, fit and trim the next morning
