I'm planning on trying this for my quarter panel patches...3M panel bond.

I like panel bonding adheisive. It usually seals the seam and rust or heat warpage should not be a problem. you may need a flanger.

Yeah, I was wondering about a flange. If you use the whole piece the topcomes flanged, but I was just going to use parts of it. Here's a dumb question...how does a flanger work and is it a tool I can pick up someplace like Harobor Freight? Otherwise I was going to use a skim coat of Bondo to bring the surface up after mounting the piece to the inside of the rest of the quarter. It would be little low, the thickness of the body steel.

Oh you need to either flange or butt weld it on. I wouldn't just overlap and bondo. That's asking for trouble later plus you are making a ton of sanding for yourself. You can buy an air flange tool from Harbour Freight or find a hand flanger from a body supply shop. If you search the internet for quarter panel installion you can find help and some good ideas on how to do this. Take your time and measure, fit, measure, fit! weld!

I don't think the bondo would be problem. Wouldn't be that much of it. The Bondo doesn't hold the patch on. The panel adhesive does. Just a thin coat of Bondo on top of the patch. Shouldn't take long to sand and not thick enough to crack. If you use the whole patch the area is outlined here (roughly) in yellow. I was planning to use just the area in red. That gets me well into good metal. Not that much surface area. I just need the flare and at the very bottom.Didn't mean to hijack the post but this is allpertains to the original question from 71mustang.
