5.0 Into a 1970
Hi everyone this is my first post so if im in the wrong section or somethin let ne know. Anyways I have a 1970 Mustang coupe, and i have an '89 5.0 for it. My question is what do I need if anything to make the 89 5.0 work in the car Thanks for the help.
Is the motor complete? With fuel rails, injectors, etc.? If so the you will have to update your fuel system.....and you will need to get an engine computer and harness (They are all over eBay for fairly cheap). I beleive after that it will mount right up.
89 is the carburated motor. you need a few things to make it fit. diffrent pan, original fuel pump off the old 302 and i forget the rest but theres guys here that know. i was thinking about mounting a new model motor and trans in my 70 coupe also.

would you want to go efi or carb?
either way a couple things you will need is, oil pan, electric fuel pump, possibly a bigger flywheel ( i dont know what tranny you have). then you gota decide if your gona put power steering, ac, and i dont think you need the smog. thats about it in a nutshell if my memory serves me correctly

Thanks everyone. The motor is a carb motor not efi and i think im gonna run ac, a t56 tranny, but i dont think im gonna do power steering. Do i need the harmonic balencer from the 302 or 5.0. 1970coupe said i need the original fuel pump from the 302 which is a mechanical fuel pump right, so would it be better to run a electric fuel pump like Mustangdemon67 so as not to waste my hp or would it even make a difference Thanks again guys
the reason you would need an electric pump is because the 5.0s have built in pumps in the gas tank. so, that means there is no outlet for mechanical pump on the block.
with the harmonic balancer and the pulleys its up to you. you can take all your old pulleys (from the other motor) and run a standard v belt system like whats on your car now.
or another way you can go is to use all the 5.0s pulleys and run a serpentine belt system. serpentines can be a little tricky sometimes because it can be hard to find a proper size for your needs (thats where a/c smog and PS play a part)
also on the 5.0s you will need to tap a new hole for your oil dipstick. there is a nice spot right behind the alternator bracket, thats where i put mine
*oh, and when looking for a place to mount the fuel pump, closer to the gas tank the better. theypush better then they suck
