power steering help
Hi Everyone,
Newby here. I am helping my 13 yr old son restore (ok, he wants to make Elenor) his 66 coupe. It is a 6 cyl car with an automatic. And here is the neat part, it has power steering too. And right now this is the issue.
We replaced the power steering pump, installed a new-rebuilt pump. And as soon as we started the car, steering wheel turned hard right, all the way to lock. You can easily turn left but you best hang on because as soon as you turn loose, steering wheel spins hard right again.
I must confess, I am baffeled. I have spokento several "buddies" who have suggested everything from crossed lines (dont know howI could havethat) to it needs bled, to some sort of actuator......
We would seriously appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Greg (dan's dad)

If you can easily turn the wheel to the other side, and it returns to the right when you let go (assuming the engine is running the whole time). Sounds to me like the valve isn't centered right. IIRC there is a cap on the driver's side of the valve, inside that, is a nut to adjust the center point for the power steering valve. The shop manual has instructions for setting this, I believe I have seen it posted before also. I don't remember the process right off, maybe someone else can help?
