problem as well. When trying to mount our 3.5" thick fan,
we had to offset the fan slightly lower and to the right of
the center of the water pump. This solved our problem, and
a person ain't likely to notice this unless they are really
looking.... Compromise, compromise!!
We are using a 3,000 CFM Zirgo on the 66. It seems to do
well with our Northern aluminum replacement radiator here in
Southern New Mexico. The highest temp I saw was 205*F (once).
We are running a 185 thermostat.
The hood did make a difference, when we drove with no hood
the highest it ever got was 191*F,,, I was so proud of myself
untill I put the hood on..... .

Thaniks people, will try a large CFM. The car has no problem at speed I think it is an airflow thing. Will try a respected brand fan, I guess that old adage you get what you paid for rings true.

JMD, What is the thickness of this unit. On the hood thing, on the KR it has louvers built into the hood. There is a lot of heat that come out of these when the car is still. I can't reach them when driving.

hey guys how about using a fan with a shroud? i know a lot of guys slap an electric fan on the radiator but use no shroud. problem is the electric fan doesent cover the entire surface of the radiator, and if there is no airflow coming through lets say 10 or 15% of the radiator then your reducing its efficiency, where as using a shroud will help the fan pull air through the entire surface of the radiator therfore cooling much better. by the way if he already using a shroud then i apologize. but it may help somebody else out.

brackets I mounted it with.
My experience with the nohood agrees with your experience with louversallowing
theengine to run cooler. I guess it turns out that those old time hot rodders were
not punchinglouvers in the hoodsof flathead Ford powered cars just for looks!
IMO a louvered hood will have to help with overheating, and maybe quite a bit.

I was having overheating problems with my jeep. It has a 4.3 Chevy in it with a Northern aluminum radiator. I had a name brand pusher fan on it that was supposed to push 2600 CFM, but it wouldn't keep it cool in hot weather if I wasn't moving. I found out that I could get a flexalite black magic fan for a foxbody mustang that would fit well, and it came with a shroud and the wiring kit. It cost me $300 for just the setup, but its rated at 3300 cfm, which I think is a little low because this thing rocks!!! it flows a ton of air and my overheating problems are gone! I believe that it would fit well on other mustangs too if you did some minor fabrication for brackets.
