351W - deal or not
Guys - what do you think about that for $700?
"This is a professionally rebuilt 351W engine with zero miles. The block code is E4AE-6015-FA3 and it came from a 85 truck, but obviously it can be used in any small block application. It's bored .030 over with new pistons and rings, reworked crank, new oil pump, all new bearings, new cam and lifters, reworked heads, and hard-to-find factory 4-bbl intake"
Thanks

Not a bad deal really. I passed on a rebuilt 351W and matching C6 trans just last month for 500.00 bucks simply because the 289 in our car was rebuilt last year and I didn't want to go through the added expense at this time. Have enough with the car rebuild as it is for this year. Also the fact I have no where to store it for now. I'll be kicking myself in a year or so as thats what the wife wants in her car down the road. Figure I could have bought both and sold the C6 for close to that and had the engine free. Came out of an ambulance with 20k on the rebuild so you pretty much know it was well maintained as well. Had another guy offer me a cleaned 351W block freshly bored 0.010 for 200.00.
We all know in a few years if I decide to go with a 351W I'll not find one under a grand.
For 700.00 bucks I'd really think about it if our car was finished. Good luck!

I am probably going to be putting my 351W block up for sale sometime soon. It came from an 84 truck. I think that I will ask $600 for it, so that deal doesnt sound bad as a complete motor.
You can assume that the rotating assembly, rods, and pistons are close to stock. Sounds like a good deal. Hopefully the machining is fresh and not a warmed over ring job. That is the only thing I would wonder about.

Just got some feedback from the vendor: "I bought the engine already rebuilt to put in my 68 Mustang, but have since decided to go with a race engine. I didn't ask who built it and when since I build engines and saw it is a very good rebuild. The machine work alone cost more than what I'm asking for the engine. I can tell you from experience this engine has nearly $1800 invested in it. I have left the oil pan unsealed so anyone can see all the work done inside"
Thw guy leaves down the road from me - any tips as to what to check?
