Default 302 clutch?

A buddy of mine is trying to bolt up a manual transmission in his 68, the problem is that the 302 in the car doesn't have the mounting hole for the engine side linkage to screw into. Is there something missing? I thought most of these had a specific hole for that particular part for use with a manual transmission? Thanks!

It's the engine side equalizer bar pivot. He can't seem to find out where on his engine it goes to use the equalizer bar. There is no provision for it on the bellhousing or the block itself.

Yeah, he has all the mechanical parts. He is on a tight budget... so this is how he is wanting to go. I'll try to get some pics from him soon! Thanks!

Sounds like he is talking about the Z bat for the mechanical clutch. The pivot he is talking about mounts on the left rear side of the block and is a kinda universal fitting to hold the inner part of the Z bar and allow it to move with the engine when it torgues up. There should bea threaded hole in the left rear of the block for this pivot point.

yes, Mustang Dad,
when i put the current 302 in my 66 it was a later block and the threaded hole wasnt present.
I cant remember what we had to do to fix it but it is not insurmountable

There's a steel bracket that is sold that bolts on with the bellhousing and has the mounting provision for the z bar setup. It's just 2 bell housing bolts that hold it there, pretty simple fix.
