Maybe I found one?
Hi all, again. I just looked on Craigslist for my area and came across a 68 coupe w/ a 289+C4 with PS, no AC, manual brakes. It doesn't start, but the guy thinks it may just have a dead battery. I talked to the owner and the car has been sitting out in the open for 3 years. The 289 is from a 67 and he said the 302 that was in it is in NJ and I could have that too if I wanted to pick it up. I asked about rust and he said that the last time he saw the car (he's in FL now and the car is at his parent's house) that the frame rails and floorpans were solid. I'm planning to go check this one out this weekend. He's asking $3500. Here's the link : http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...580012900.html
Please let me know what you guys think?
Thanks!

looks pretty decent. do you know anyone whos a mechanic? if so, bring him/her along to chec out the car and see what it would really take, but from the pics, its looks pretty good. and you should also go to nj and pick up the original motor if you would ever want to use it, plus if not, you could sell it and make a couple hundered bucks
Take a well charged battery, a can of fresh gas, and some wrenches with you. When people tell you it just needs this or that, check it out for yourself.
3 year old gas may work, but just remove the fuel line from the carb and run one to the gas can. That and a battery should get you going if it is just the battery. You might want to bring some starting fluid along as well.
Good luck!

Then if it doesnt start (or even if it does), I would offer him less and hope he takes it. Just kind of point out what is wrong in a polite way, and ask if he will lower the price a little. Even for the car not running that seems like a pretty good deal.

or find a buddy who has AAA service and have it towed to your house for free. If what he says is true, this is a pretty darn good deal.

If it is close to what he says it would be hard to go wrong with it. Be careful about pointing out anything wrong with the car. He has an emotional attachment since he did a restore on it with his father. It's probably worth the money anyway. He's already priced in problems. It would be good to know for sure it will start and move, but for that money you can sink some cash into it and still come out OK. Good luck.
i can't believe that someone is selling a stang not starting believing it's the battery.
it takes oneandahalf mins to check that and if it's the battery the guy could sell for more.
So i'm quite positive it's not only the battery, but maybe you're lucky
