Hello guys, I am putting new engine into my 67 coupe. It is a 302 and new everything. I do not have a pvc yet and i know nothing about them! I think it some sort of vacum? Do I need one? If so, Where does it go? Any help would be great! Thanks

 

It goes into the valve cover and is hooked with a hose to the intake manifold, typically on a plate under the carb.

 

PVC is a type of pipe. PCV is an emission device that uses vacum to evacuate crankcase gases. A one way valve goes in to the passenger side vavle cover and is connected to the carburetor by a rubber hose. It is an essential part of the engine.

 

What goes into the intake? what are all the holes there?

 

Thank you thunder, I have that in my valve cover. I thought that it was someting that went into the intake. Do you know what all i need to hook up there?

 

It's not so much an emissions as it is a reliability device. On older cars like our's the valve end goes in a valve cover and has a 1 way ball check valve that can only pull out from the engine/crankcase, and the other end of the hose goes to the PCV port on a carb, or carb plate etc. It uses manifold vacuum to draw a vacuum on the crankcase so that the gasses from blowby(which occurs to some degree in ALL engines) don't build up. If the gasses do build up you can get problems ranging from oil leaks due to the positive pressure pushing past gaskets, to decreased engine life from the build up of acid and moisture in the crankcase.
