Default Attn all Engine Builders!!!

I know a lot of people here are either proffessional engine builders/machinists or have dealt with them. what i want to know is is 1700 a good deal for a 289 rebuild at a reputable machine shop. this does not include the heads because they are already rebuiltand had some bowl blending done and larger valves(800). it also does not include rotating balancing.

It depends on what parts are going into it.

If it's assembled well then that's not too bad. Make sure you at least upgrade to some ARP rod bolts, the factory rod bolts are a joke. And ABSOLUTELY follow AAAALLLLLLL of the instructions for the cam break-in procedure. Down to the most minute detail. If you go with cast pistons then you might as well go hyper, they'll be a bit stronger, and depending on who made them, lighter. Just make sure your tune is right, if you detonate on hyper pistons they're prone to cracking.

Get it dynamically balanced. And you could prolly get a slightly bigger cam if you're looking for more power.

A full rotating assembly is going to be a large chunk of that. Are you getting new rods and crank with that? What are they machining? Ask lots of questions. The last thing you want is a rebuild with a crank or rods that have not been touched. You can turn a crank and reuse it, but just ask the questions of what does that price include?
