Default fuel pressure

whats the fuel pressure supposed to be anyway? i believe part of my over rich problem is due to no regulator at all on this car and i'm drowning the carb out with gas. - it's a 110gph pump thats delivering 6.5-10 psi or so - i need to regulate it down some , but i don't know to where, anyone know?

everyone knows my specs i think..

289 .30 over
gt40p's
holley 600 cfm
performer rpm
xe268h
tri y's

etc

thanks!

6.5 is just above tolerable upper limits (too much)

I suggest between 5.5 and 6 lbs

hell they will run just fine at 1 pound assuming the pressure never drops much below that under heavy acceleration

how do you plan on making it....by going to work and using the money you made at work to buy one from summit?

actually some carbs (holley street abenger) want constant 5-7lbs pressure (no more, no less).
Check the carb manual. but if you can make a pressure regulator, then I'd set it to 6 max and see how that goes

Not trying to hijack your post but I may have a similar problem. I put a mechanical Holley 110 on my car late last year.
It is harder to start now & doesn't seem to idle as good. Seems to run OK though. I was thinking the carb was the problem but is it possiblethe fuel pumpis too big?
Motor is stock 1993 Cobra302 with Edelbrock Performer & Holley Vac Sec 600.

I doubt the fuel pump is too big.
just because it can delver 110 gallons per hour doesn't mean the car has to use 110 gallons an hour of fuel.
at idle the floats are nearly closed and allow only a very small amount of fuel to drip in.

The springs for your inlet needles might be weak and allowing more fuel in than is necessary.

Aftermarket fuel pumps routinely run more pressure than carbed cars want. This goes for mechanical pumps as well as electrics.

I will admit to never owning a fuel pressure guage..... I just keep turning down the pressure or the regulatoruntil the car stops flooding..... does this make me a bad person???????

I have a mechanical fuel pressure gauge.
im using a stock carter AFB 600
a carter high volume fuel pump
i get 6.1lbs unregulated works fine for that particular carb

If your carb cant handle 6 pounds you can probably get improved needle springs that will allow it to operate at the 6lb range.

personally if i was running a 4 barrel carb that couldn't handle 6lbs I would make it handle 6lbs or throw it away and get one that will handle 6lbs before i ran a regulator
