347 crate stroker install?

Well, I would love to do that, but I dont really have the time, money, or experience for it. I am in school and that takes up most of my time, and I work, and am planning on getting another job to make money for college. I dont want to put money into the car that will just go to waste later. This is my dream car, and I am building it to be the way I want it to be. This is my first car and I dont really have anyone helping me in fixing it up, except my dad, who knows a decent amount, but not enough for most of the major work. Im "in a hurry" cuz the car just sits in the garage now and I want to have it done for this summer. I will be going to college and wont be able to bring the car with me, so I would like to enjoy it while I can. During/after college I plan on taking automotive courses and learning as much as I can, at which point I will prolly buy a few cars just to tinker on. I do what I know I can (basically the whole entire interior so far) but I will leave it up to more experienced ppl for big stuff.
For the mustang tho, I am just going to build it right the first time. Plus, my daily driver is a 14 second car, and I want the mustang to be a weekend strip car, so its too slow now!
fast66- I detailed the engine bay the best I could and it just brings out the.....uh.....vintage look. lol. at car shows I roll the windows down and barely crack the hood in hopes that ppl will look at my nice interior. plus, the lines of the car look much better with the hood shut.
Basically, I see what you guys are saying, and I agree, but im just not there now. In the future ill have cars to learn on (model t, 50s merc, 70s corvette, rat rod, 4x4, etc are my plans!) and I will tinker on those, but I just dont want to take risks with the stang.

Spend the couple of hundred bucks getting you cur running right with a good tune up, a petronic kit etc, You could throw on a nice set of header and exhauset( these will still suit future upgrades) and at least it will sound mean.
Never forget, you get what you pay for. If that stroker sounds too cheap to be true, then odds on it is. I would say it is only the short block, and you will be up for heads, valvetrain, intake, cam, distributor, leads etc, etc. This will easily come to $3000. Are you going to try to cool it with your current old radiator? Slap your worn out alternatoron there?
If you do the simple stuff suggested, you can drive the car for a while and work out what needs to be done, and what order those things need to be done in.
Good luck.
Hey man, the rear axle should hold up with no problems with a 347, unless you run slicks and just beat the holy hoo-ha out of it all the time. Your trans should be a C4, and while they are great if built right, a stock unit would crap out pretty quick. a simple rebuild would keep it in good enough shape to handle the power. I would recommend getting a pro-shif servo though because it will help eliminate any slippage by putting more pressure on the clutches. A good valvebody from TCI or PA would be a good upgrade too, and they only run about $160. If you are just getting a shortblock, you could just use the 289 heads, but you wouldn't want to put in a big cam because the heads just don't flow enough at high RPM. Of course, you can very easily upgrade the heads and cam of the engine at a later time, and it can be done without pulling the engine.Im like you though, while slowly building it up makes sense for a lot of people, since this isn't your daily, I would go ahead and follow through with your plans. As far as the $750 to pull the engine, I would say pay him to do it if you are not mechanically inclined enough to do it. There is alot of things that can cause MAJOR damage if you dont know what you're doing.

Mike owns the shop, and he is the guy I have been talking to. I got his name on a local forum and a bunch of guys said he did great work.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, keep em coming!

Look, as tempting as it is to drop in that 347. It WILL cause failures in other area in no time. Your trans will likely **** itself pretty quickly, your uni joints the same. The 8" rear end is at its limits with any decent 347. you curretn budget just isn't going to get you waht you want it to be yet. Take the advise given on here by people who have been there.

nineteen, no one here is trying to discourage you...actually the guys who are saying "whoa there" are trying to do the opposite.
So you said you had 3000.
youve spent 2500 on the engine and 750 on removing/refitting etc...$3250.
Exhaust $inc labor?
Trans $ plus labor?
Diff $ plus labor?
Suspension plus labor?
Steering, brakes plus labor?
Tyres?
Radiator?
Wiring?
Driveshaft?
Consumables?
Change for gas?????
Some money left over for college?????
if the entire rest of the car is up to scratch, then your c4 can handle it, your 8" can handle it yada yada. BUT, if you've only got 3k to spend (even if you end up at4k with some birthday cash from granma or whoever), your not going to get the thing all the way thereeven ifyou are doing a lot of the work yourself...which you say you are not going to do.
are you in a position totriple your budget to avoid disappointment? will the Bank of M&D come thru with the additional funds
the alternative is spend 2-300 on the engine you already have so you can drive it this summerand the rest on making the car ready for a better engine next summer.

Well, after my last thread about the 3k I talked to my dad and he pretty much told me not to worry about the money, and just do what I want to the car. Obviously, that doesn't mean I can build a pro-street car and have him pay for it, but if I cant afford it, either he will pay for it or loan me the money. So any more, I'm not really worried about affording what I want, but I still want to keep the costs as low as I can.
